Week 4

In an interactive story map, the storytelling experience is transformed into a multimedia experience that the readers experience. Through these multimedia, links, and interactive elements, readers can delve into various aspects of the narrative however they like and get the information that they want. This different approach to storytelling though of course requires different skills utilized to a greater degree than some might be used to.

These skills in question are theme and layout. A strong theme, despite the open nature of the map, the story's core must be strong enough to withstand exploration. We can achieve this by identifying a central theme or a guiding thread that ties our literacy journey together. This underlying narrative will allow readers to navigate without losing sight of the main storyline.

Next, we can cover the layout and how having consistency is key in this project. After all, similarly to what I previously said, story maps have an open nature allowing readers to digest what they want to. As such, we as the people making them, have to tell a story that can almost stand by itself in each point and connect to the end.

Additionally, we should implement interactive features purposefully, complementing the narrative rather than distracting from it. Embedding images, videos, or audio clips can enhance the reader's understanding and emotional connection to the story. The map of course is the first thing that comes to mind when looking at other story maps but media can be used however seen fit. In fact, at the bottom is a wireframe of how multimedia can be used in story maps.

As we create our story maps, we should embrace the potential of this developing medium. An interactive, online map allows us to present our literacy story in a way that is engaging, immersive, and tailored to the preferences of a modern audience. By carefully crafting our narrative and using thoughtful interactive elements, we can ensure that our unique stories shine through clearly and powerfully, leaving a lasting impact on our readers.
